After 15 years, one of ends of a gas spring on my cover snapped off and I panicked thinking about the service call charge and replacement cost. So I decided to try to do it myself.
Honestly, I was a little scared because I'm not that handy and because I couldn't find instructions online or a video on YouTube.
But I ordered two and they arrived quickly and as promised. (While only one broke, I decided to replace both since they're the same age and had the same wear.)
It was super simple. The snap into place on two little metal nipple. It literally took me five minutes to replace both.
It was a great improvement overall. The cover is much easier to raise now, and lowering it is more stable and deliberate.
