Great upgrade choice!

My spa had 2 Executive 56 4HP pumps. My model has a lot of jets, and the performance was weak. When one of the pumps died after 10 years, I replaced it with a EX2 56 frame 3 HP pump. Don't be fooled by the horsepower rating. This pump pulls 12A on high speed and 4.4 amps on low speed, exactly like the Executive 56 4HP pump. With the EX2, the performance took a massive step up. Every situation is different, and if your spa has relatively few jets or restrictive plumbing, you may not see a huge improvement. My spa has low pressure head at the outlet, which is where the EX2 shines. I'm not recommending this for everyone, because an upgrade like this could cause the plumbing system or jets to fail. You have to know what you're doing or be willing to take the risk. In my case it was a great step up that transformed the spa. I'm planning to replace the other pump with another EX2 as well.

Be aware that unions are not all the same. If you have a Waterway pump already, you should be good as long as the unions are in good shape. If you need to replace the unions, I recommend you get Waterway unions to be sure they'll work with your new Waterway pump. Also, don't forget to buy a pair of gaskets - the pumps don't include them. Finally, I like to put a little bit of silicone (with teflon) plumber's grease on the threads of the union as well as on the new gaskets. Putting a bit on the threads makes it a much easier to get the unions tight enough so that they don't leak. You want the joint to be leak-free but don't over-tighten -- you can easily crush the gasket and shorten its life.

Exact match with one exception.

This motor and pump was a direct replacement with one exception. My old pump had the standard intake and discharge which match exactly. However it also had two 1/2" hoses that attached with screw in hose barbs to the small ports on the face of the impeller housing. The problem was the new pump only had one port with threads. The other two "ports" are not ports. They could be drilled out and threaded but they are blind and un-threaded. I bought a T fitting, 1/4" pipe nipple and two hose barbs and attached the two hoses to the single threaded port. Everything works fine. The new pump, pumps more volume that the old one did....that's a good thing. I had this FedEx overnight because we were going to have a hard freeze in a couple of days. It came in a timely fashion and all worked out well.
