Easy Hot Tub Exercises

hot tubWith the warmth and buoyancy provided in your hot tub, it is a great place for a workout. The moving water will provide light resistance and the warm water will help relax your muscles.  Let’s take a look at some simple exercises you can do while you soak in your spa.

Warm Ups

(3 to 5 Repetitions of Each)

  • With your hands on your hips, simply bend from side to side.

  • Stand up and then squat down to where your shoulders are submersed, slowly raise one shoulder up toward your ear, lower it and raise the other shoulder, continue switching from one to the other. Then slowly tilt your neck from left to right, then left to right.

  • While seated extend arms out to your sides, slowly rotate your arms in a circle forward, then in reverse.

Abdominal Exercises

(Start with 5 repetitions and work your way up to 3 sets of 10)

  • Sit straight up in your seat and take a deep breathe. As you exhale slowly, softly contract your abdominal muscles while pushing out air.

Leg Exercises

(Start with 5 repetitions and work your way up to 3 sets of 10)

  • While sitting extend your legs straight out, slowly bring one knee to your body, extend that leg again and repeat with the other leg.

  • Sit on the hot tub seat and simply and slowly move your legs, fully extended, up and down in the water.

  • While sitting on the edge of your hot tub seat, hold onto a grab bar for support. Lift your legs up and rotate them slowly as if you were riding a bike, try to keep your abdominal muscles tight for a tummy exercise also. Start slowly and increase repetitions each time you try it.

Now, sit back relax and enjoy a soak in your spa. Try repeating these simple hot tub exercises at the beginning of each soak.
