How Is Ozone Created?

Oxygen molecules are split, by a high-energy electrical discharge, resulting in two individual oxygen atoms and those individual oxygen atoms unite with remaining oxygen molecules to produce a three-atom molecule of ozone. The weak bond holding ozones third oxygen atom causes the molecule to be extremely unstable and thus, very effective as an oxidizer. An oxidation reaction occurs upon any collision between an ozone molecule and an organic molecule, such as bacteria, viruses, fungus and algae, where the oxygen atom held by the weak bond splits off and only oxygen is left behind.

Works great, but...

Install was easy and straight forward, but it would have been even better it the power cord was 2-3 food longer. This happens when companies try to save a nickel...

So far so good but I have concerns.

I have a 5 seat Bullfrog spa that over the last couple of years has used both Ozonator and salt water system. The original Ozonator came with the spa and stopped working after 2 years. We went to salt water system which was fine but left salt water residue everywhere. ( Our tub is inside in and the steps, side and floor would have salt residue). I bought this unit as it had the best reviews but did not see the review that showed how much smaller the inside ozonator is compared to past model. They kept same sized body but there is virtually nothing inside? The unit is coming on correctly and I do smell the ozone. The water is staying clean with one teaspoon of cleaner per week but for how long? Is this small inside unit as efficient as the previous model? Time will tell.

It might be good

It ran for 5 days and then quit. The water got swampy so I opened the cabinet and checked it. No light on the unit with 120v supplied from the board. I tested the wires and 120v was delivered to the inside of the unit. Not sure why it shut off... but just as randomly it lit up and came back on, hopefully for good. This makes me nervous because this is a community hot tub on the ranch that many rely on and it needs to stay clear and clean. I have always had good luck with Delzone units so all i can do now is cross my fingers and open the dang cabinet panel every week to make sure the light is on and hope the water does not go to swamp muck. Hesitantly disappointed. Shoots.

Solved a Mystery

Our tub had developed a chronic problem becoming more evident in the last few years. It was irritating our throats temporarily, making us cough, especially when the circ pump was running with the mist from tiny bubbles having an almost caustic effect. In retrospect it seems obvious but after following other leads, e.g. cleaning the tub (fresh water), adjusting PH, adding waterline control chemistry, symptoms would dissipate for a while. Our tub is 20 years old and I never gave a thought to the function of the ozonator until reading that their expected life is 3-5 years. Wow, I don't remember being told that when I bought the tub. Long story made short, one month post replacement our water is clearer than it's been in a long time, no respiratory irritation and this old dog learned a new trick.
